During a recent press junket at Disneyland for Frankenweenie, Tim Burton, Winona Ryder and others were at hand, and they shared their opinions on a possible sequel to Beetlejuice.

The screenplay is being written right now, with director Tim Burton and actress Winona Ryder showing some interest. Although, on paper, it sounds like they’re only vaguely interested in the prospect.

“Right now, the writer is writing something and I have no idea when it’s coming; I have no expectations. I didn’t give him too much direction because I want to try to not have a lot of preconceived ideas about it. Sometimes you want to be surprised. But I love the character and if it’s a good script, then great. But there’s no point really for me thinking about it until I see it.”

–Tim Burton

“I’ve heard it’s being written, but that’s all I know. So yeah … I guess it would be great if it happens.”

–Winona Ryder

I guess this means their excitement — particularly Burton’s — won’t be piqued until Burton decides to recast his beloved Johnny Depp as Beetlejuice, who inevitably becomes the main character.

Sure, I’m reaching, but you know in your heart that it’s the most likely scenario.
