• Tron: Legacy Will Be at Comic-Con

Disney announced that their film Tron: Legacy will have a panel at Comic-Con with actors Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund, Bruce Boxleitner, and Michael Sheen at hand; along with director Joe Kosinski; with producers Sean Bailey and Steven Lisberger.  Patton Oswalt will moderate the panel. There’s also a rumor going around that the ones who did the music for the movie, Daft Punk, will be in attendance as surprise guests at the panel.

It will be the third year at Comic-Con for the upcoming movie. Last year at Comic-Con they released a teaser for the film and it was a huge hit with the audience. It’ll evidently be one of the most anticipated panels this year at the con; and the rumor of Daft Punk being there will only add to it.

  • Deadpool News

Reportedly 20th Century Fox is attempting to get Robert Rodriguez as director for the film adaption of comic book character Deadpool. It’s assumed that Ryan Reynolds will reprise the role of Wade Wilson.

As with many comic book fans, I was irked by how Wade Wilson was handled in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. What made it worse was the part was perfectly casted, but then they robbed Deadpool of his personality by sewing his mouth shut. It made no sense — Ryan Reynolds fits the part as well as Robert Downey Jr. fits Iron Man.

I’m skeptical that Fox will release a good Deadpool movie, but so far it looks to be a good start on paper: Ryan Reynolds was very vocal about wanting to reprise the role. And the screenwriters of Zombieland; Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are set to write the script for Deadpool. I’m cautiously optimistic.

  • The Hobbit Moves Forward Without A Director

Producer Peter Jackson’s adaption of The Hobbit continues forward despite Guillermo del Toro leaving the director chair. There’s still no replacement at this time and Peter Jackson refuses to assume the director role.

The production is still moving along; auditions being held, and sets are near completion in New Zealand.

It’s too bad Guillermo del Toro is unable to direct — though Peter Jackson is determined to find a suitable replacement. Personally, I lean towards Terry Gilliam. He strikes me as a good fit for the project.

  • A Band From San Diego: A City Serene

Post Hardcore / Screamo band from San Diego, A City Serene have been busy recording a new album and going on tour. They return home to headline at SOMA this Saturday on June 19, 2010.

A City Serene formed in 2008 and performed their first gig at a little bar. They gave it their all despite the small crowd; their first night and they were already displaying a strong stage presence. It really showed their work ethic and their passion for music. And it wasn’t before long they were headlining local shows and drawing crowds. Despite their popularity rising, they remain humble, talking with their fans and wanting to connect.

Recently they released a new song entitled Diamond Skies on their MySpace at:

In addition, they released a fun cover of 3OH!3’s My First Kiss which can be found here along with other songs for download and for listening:

  • Supernatural Becomes an Anime

Anime studio MADHOUSE (Death Note, Vampire Hunter D) is set to produce an anime version of Supernatural. It will be a twenty-two episode long season covering the first two seasons of the show along with original episodes created just for the anime. Episodes will be released beginning on January 12, 2011 on DVD and Blu-ray in Japan.

I didn’t expect Supernatural getting an anime version, but it makes perfect sense. The premise is just itching to be an anime: two brothers driving across the country fighting supernatural creatures and saving people. It’s a good fit for the medium. I just hope that it’ll include the classic rock and humor — and not focus too much on the drama. Otherwise it’ll lose the appeal the television show has.

  • “The Phantom” Returns on SyFy

If there’s one reboot I wouldn’t hesitate to advocate, it would be the Phantom. The premise itself justifies rebooting it every so often.

The Phantom first started as a comic strip created by Lee Falk in 1936 and still continues today. The character also found its way on the mediums of comic books, cartoons, and movies. It’s also the character that started the superhero trend of skintight costumes and masks that do not show the pupils.

In the story; in 1536, pirates attacked a ship that left Christopher Walker as the only survivor who washed ashore on a Bengallan beach. On the skull of his father’s murderer in the attack, Christopher swore an oath to destroy injustice, and that his sons and their sons will follow.

After his death, his son assumed the role of the Phantom. With the mantle being passed down from generation to generation, the Phantom gave the impression of being immortal, which earned him the nickname “The Ghost Who Walks”. Each incarnation of the Phantom has no powers, but instead relies on intellect; strength, and on the legend of being immortal, which places an underlining fear in his adversaries.

SyFy will be bringing the Phantom on TV with a miniseries starring Ryan Carnes; it will premiere on June 20, 2010.

  • NBC’s “The Cape” Update

British actor Vinnie Jones has been casted in NBC’s new show, The Cape. He’ll be a series regular portraying a man with a skin condition that gives off the impression of green and gold scales, which earns him the nickname “Scales”.

Vinnie Jones will be joining David Lyons, Summer Glau, and Keith David in the new series.

I posted about The Cape a while back, and the news about Vinnie Jones joining the cast piques my interest even more. His character is outlandish, and it just might work since a carnival is integral to the plot. It fits.

  • Mortal Kombat Reboot Teaser?

So many reboots this year. A teaser for Mortal Kombat has recently surfaced with Michael Jai White as Jax. The tone leans towards realistic and gritty; straying from cartoonish violence that the last film had. It’s only speculation if this is a teaser for a new Mortal Kombat movie or if it’s a live-action trailer for a new video game since E3 is around the corner. Either way, it’s a refreshing take on the franchise.
