  • Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Return

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s term as California governor is up and he’s looking to make an onscreen comeback. Despite being one of the top action stars, the 63-year-old actor considers his age for his return to filming.

So what screenplay caught Arnold’s interest? With Wings As Eagles written by Randall Wallace. Why did the script catch his eye?

“Extreme fighting and shooting isn’t possible for me anymore. In the future I’ll need to pick my roles according to my age. Clint Eastwood did it the same way. In With Wings As Angels I would play an older soldier, but the script still has all kinds of adventure.”

    — Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold would portray an aging German soldier in World War II, who, against orders, commits to rescuing prisoners of war.

It’s a premise that seems to fit Arnold just fine. Nothing is set in stone, but it’d be a good role for Arnold’s comeback in cinema. I just hope his one-liners will make a return as well.

  • Sherlock Holmes 2 New Photo

The sequel to director Guy Ritchie’s film Sherlock Holmes is underway starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Joining them are Stephen Fry as Sherlock’s more intelligent and older brother Mycroft Holmes, Noomi Rapace as a gypsy named Sim and Jared Harris as the infamous criminal mastermind Moriarty.

LA Times’ Hero Complex released a movie still of the film which showcases Downey’s and Law’s onscreen romance chemistry together.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first movie — so I entirely look forward to the sequel — especially with the addition of Stephen Fry. He’s an intelligent actor with great comedic timing. He will be a perfect fit as Mycroft Holmes.

Sherlock Holmes 2 is out on December 16, 2011.

  • Alien Prequel Dies for Prometheus

For the last two years Ridley Scott and Fox have been working on an Alien prequel. Was it needed? Not necessarily — but alas, Damon Lindelof (Lost) came onboard to help Scott rewrite the screenplay.

Then a swerve occurred that no one was expecting: the Alien prequel strayed from its source material and became an original story. The new sci-fi film is entitled Prometheus.

“While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place.”

    — Ridley Scott

Actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) who was to star in the prequel will star in Prometheus.

Others have mentioned that it’s a bold move by Fox to greenlight an original sci-fi film as opposed to sticking with a project that has a strong franchise behind it, and it’s true. Studios usually stick with what’s safe.

With a few notable, original films in the past year; hopefully Prometheus furthers ushering in originality with studios.

Oh, and does that look like web-shooters on his wrists? Why yes, yes it does.
