xmendaysoffuturepastposterAt this point it’s not news that director Bryan Singer likes to share updates on film projects on his Twitter — more specifically, casting. One of his next movies is X-Men: Apocalypse. It’s a story arc I didn’t expect would get a film adaptation. Most likely a loose one, but still. It’s Apocalypse. A centuries old Egyptian mutant who sees himself as a god.

The latest update? Well, I’m a month behind but let’s pretend that I’m not.

Aw, come on, really? You won’t? Fine. I’ll pretend that you’re pretending.

Sophie Turner, mostly known for portraying the perpetually emotionally abused Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, will join as Jean Grey. Also joining the X-Men is Alexandra Shipp (Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B) as Storm, and Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers, otherwise known as Cyclops.

I have to admit right away that I’m very excited for Sheridan playing Cyclops. He was in a little movie with Matthew McConaughey entitled Mud. Haven’t seen it yet? You should. Sheridan was incredible in it — as well McConaughey, but that’s a given. It also doesn’t hurt that Cyclops is my favorite X-Man.

I like how the X-Men are being handled lately, starting with First Class. They’re period superhero films. First, taking place in the 1960s, then Days of Future Past mainly in the 1970s. The next will take place in the 1980s. And now we’re getting additional X-Men that we’re more familiar with. And they’re younger than the current cast.

Which is perfect for the franchise. They can grow into their roles. We can see Cyclops and Storm grow into experienced leaders. And Wolverine being a creepy old man with a crush on Jean.

I also cannot wait for people yelling “Jean” at Sophie Turner.

X-Men: Apocalypse is slated for theaters May 27, 2016.
