• Update on Ghost Rider Sequel

Last month I wrote a post about the sequel for Ghost Rider, and it’s moving forward. Nicolas Cage reprises his role in the film entitled Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The directors of Crank, Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine are attached to direct. It’s scheduled to be released in theaters in 2011. And apparently in 3D.

The more I think about it, the more pessimistic I am towards the sequel. The directors of Crank and Gamer do make entertaining movies, but their prior films always had a similar feel — a feel that doesn’t coincide with Ghost Rider. Of course they could surprise us and direct an excellent, dark Ghost Rider flick, but that’s entirely up in the air.

The other thing that makes me weary is that Nicolas Cage is still playing the part — which I still feel he cannot portray. He should have been a producer for the adaptations due to his love for the character.

Oh well. Maybe they’ll get it right and have it be a horror/action comic book film when it’s rebooted. What? You know it’ll eventually happen.

  • Jeremy Renner Cast in new Mission: Impossible Film

The fourth installment to the Mission: Impossible franchise is underway with the screenplay written by Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec. It’ll be directed by Brad Bird — and, of course, Tom Cruise is set to star. Joining the movie franchise will be actor Jeremy Renner, whose most notable role is William James in The Hurt Locker.

It’s an interesting choice since the original plan for the franchise was to cast younger actors who would eventually carry it, and Cruise’s character gradually leaving the forefront. Nevertheless, Jeremy Renner is an excellent choice as evident by The Hurt Locker — unless he’s the antagonist. Oh hell, let’s make him the lead even if he is. He has a good screen presence.

  • Edgar Allan Poe Film

On Twitter John Cusack announced that he’ll be portraying Edgar Allan Poe in the film The Raven, being directed by James McTeigue. It sounds promising since Teigue was the director for V For Vendetta, which had a theatrical feel that would fit in with this movie. The film won’t be an adaptation of the poem, but its story will deal with a serial killer using Poe’s writings as inspiration. This will force Edgar Allan Poe into helping track down the serial killer.

The film has a lot of potential with the director attached and with John Cusack already diving into research to do the role justice. And yes, it will be a period piece set in the 1800s. It’s most likely a given that it’ll be both theatrical and creepy. I sure hope so.

  • Malcolm McDowell in Vampire Comedy

Director Amy Heckerling has Alicia Silverstone, Krysten Ritter, Marilu Henner, Zak Orth, Sigourney Weaver, Malcolm McDowell, and others casted in her new vampire comedy. Yes, you read that right.

The premise deals with two vampires living in New York — obviously living the nightlife — who end up risking disapproval from vampire elders. The part that piqued my interest? Malcolm McDowell will be playing the velvet-jogging-suit-wearing Vlad the Impaler . . . who has a fascination with knitting.

  • Hiatus Over for A Perfect Circle?

Four years ago the band A Perfect Circle went on a hiatus after their last effort, cover album eMotive was released. Maynard James Keenan went on with Tool and his solo project Puscifer, while Billy Howerdel put together the band Ashes Divide.

The website for A Perfect Circle has been left relatively untouched since then. Then last month an update appeared, saying, “Stuff . . . is happening.” Days later a new update appeared, telling, “Subtle stealth movement. Keep eyes and ears peeled for clues thru [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][sic] all channels involving Ashes Divide and Puscifer.”

Lately they’ve been posting on Twitter and Facebook about a project that involves Josh Freese, and there’s a strong possibility that other members of A Perfect Circle are involved as well. They aren’t being straight-forward, but it’s pretty much a given that the band is regrouping and writing new music.

I was a huge fan of Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step, and one of the few who liked their cover album eMotive too. I’m very stoked for their next effort and it cannot come soon enough. A Perfect Circle is a damn good band.

  • Futurama Parodies Comic-Con

On Thursday Futurama will air an episode parodying Comic-Con. A sneak peek was released, and it’s bound to make any Comic-Con attendee laugh. And if that’s not enough, Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff is one of the guest stars.

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot Update

Screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum have been hired by Paramount to write a script for a live-action film of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Yes, the films are being remade. Though, there’s a chance it’ll be a good remake — those two had a hand in writing Iron Man, which was a fun film. Though, I do hope that they keep the tone somewhat dark like the first live-action movie for the Ninja Turtles. Which still can be the case since Platinum Dunes is set to produce.

  • Hellraiser Sequel in Progress

The Hellraiser franchise refuses to die. Apparently after a few hiccups, the remake has been scrapped in favor of a sequel. The last film was in 2005, and the latest in development is entitled Hellraiser: Revelations.

Strangely enough, Doug Bradley, who has portrayed Pinhead since the inception of Hellraiser will not be reprising the role.

Peta Wilson has been the first casted in the movie; and it’ll be directed by Victor Garcia.
