    In an interview with NBC, Christian Bale sings the Powerpuff Girls theme song. Mark Wahlberg then sings The Touch by Stan Bush. What else is there to say? It’s really amusing.

  • Guillermo del Toro Opens Production Company Mirada

    Guillermo del Toro spearheads a production company named Mirada with Mathew Cullen, Guillermo Navarro and Javier Jimenez. It’s based out of a 25,000-square-foot studio in Marina del Rey, California; the same studio where key sequences from Blade Runner filmed.

    Mirada encompasses a sound stage, animation, post and visual effects, an art department and a full camera shop.

    “I hate to use this word, but it’s a boutique operation. We want to attract filmmakers and help them develop their ideas from the ground up. Not in a pipeline of production and not with a marketing view, but simply, how to build a story the best. That could be a short film, a feature film, a commercial, proof of concept — whatever it may be, you get all of us.”

    Mirada is great news for filmmakers, and it’s a huge but smart endeavor for del Toro and co. They will help streamline and cultivate filmmaking; Mirada will make resources easier for filmmakers.

  • Transformers: Dark of the Moon Teaser is Out

    Michael Bay’s third Transformers film is underway, and entitled Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Shia LaBeouf once again reprises his starring role as Sam Witwicky. Returning cast members are Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, and Ramon Rodriguez. Peter Cullen returns as the voice of Optimus Prime, with Hugo Weaving again voicing Megatron. Newcomer Rosie Huntington-Whiteley joins the cast as Sam’s love interest Carly.

    Transformers: Dark of the Moon will be in 3D, utilizing the 3D cameras used in Avatar. Hopefully this means the action shots will pull back so the viewer can clearly see what’s going on.

    The teaser trailer came out today; and it’s speculation that the transformer displayed in it is Alpha Trion, one of the original thirteen transformers.

    Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens July 1, 2011.

  • Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium

    Neill Blomkamp, the director of the highly successful movie District 9 teams up with star and friend Sharlto Copley for their next sci-fi film: Elysium. The premise takes place in a future on a distant planet, and like District 9, there will be sociopolitical themes in the sci-fi story.

    With the budget for Elysium worked out, Blomkamp and co. are meeting with actor reps to begin casting. They’re also looking for a distributor, but considering that Blomkamp’s District 9 earned  2009’s 10 Best Picture nominations — it shouldn’t be a problem.

    It’s refreshing to see Neill Blomkamp spearheading another original film despite Sony Pictures pushing for a sequel for District 9. I’m looking forward to Elysium.

  • Iron Man 3 Continues The Avengers

    Iron Man 3 will release on May 3, 2013, and director Jon Favreau considers the film as a continuation of Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers. In a way, it does make sense. Marvel wants their films in the same universe, and keeping those elements would establish that.

    “In theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America, and Avengers.”

    Some consider these series of films as a “chapter one” for Marvel films. Starting and ending this chapter with Iron Man would be fitting. And make no mistake: Marvel intends to translate more comic book characters onto film; “chapter two” will further expand the movie universe.

  • Hans Zimmer Won’t Be Composing Superman

    Last week a rumor spread that composer Hans Zimmer would score Zack Snyder’s Superman film. It wasn’t an odd rumor considering Superman is produced by Christopher Nolan, whose last three films were scored by Zimmer. The man himself cleared things up on Superman:

    Zimmer does have a point: The Superman theme composed by John Williams is a classic that’s synonymous with Superman. It could potentially hurt the new movie to compose a new theme.   • Musical Comedy Starring Robert Downey Jr.

    Warner Bros. pushes forward a musical comedy with a script and lyrics written by Brian Yorkey, and music composed by Tom Kitt. The award-winning team developed the story with Anonymous Content, along with Robert Downey Jr. and wife Susan Downey. And yes, Robert Downey Jr. will star in the musical.

    Downey will play one of the two songwriters who become bankrupt after their first big musical becomes a failure. Searching for creative inspiration, they become counselors at their childhood theater camp.

    Robert Downey Jr. has experience in theater, including Broadway show American Passion. He’s a very charismatic actor, and it’ll be a pleasure to see him bring his singing onto the big screen.

    What can I say? I’m a huge fan of the man. I’m stoked for his musical comedy.

  • Aaron Eckhart Confirms Two-Face Won’t Appear in The Dark Knight Rises

    More news comes through for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises: Aaron Eckhart met with the director and brought up how people are curious if Two-Face will be making in appearance in the film — unfortunately Nolan informed him that Two-Face won’t make an appearance in the third film.

    “Chris and I had a meeting, on the beach, just the two of us … I said, ‘Chris, a lot of people are asking me if I’m in the next Batman. And Chris said, ‘Yes?’ I said, ‘Am I?’ He looked at me and he said, ‘No.’”And I was heartbroken. I was heartbroken. But Chris has his reasons and my life must go on.”

    I still would’ve preferred Two-Face making a cameo despite the end of his story arc in The Dark Knight. Eckhart is a talented actor, and he’s clearly passionate about the role of Harvey Dent.
