  • Christopher Nolan’s Last Batman Film Confirmed

Christopher Nolan confirmed that The Dark Knight Rises will be the last Batman film that he and Christian Bale will work on. Nevertheless, Nolan said in an interview that he’s happy to work on the third and final Batman movie.

“I must say that I’m glad—I’m very, very glad—to be embarking on the last chapter of our Batman saga without any sense of obligation or duty to the studio. They did very well with Inception. So I’m able to go into finishing our story in a very enthusiastic way.”

    -Christopher Nolan

Now the question on people’s minds is whether Warner Brothers reboots the franchise or not. It shouldn’t be necessary. Comic books continue moving forward with their stories despite getting new artists and writers. Why not do the same with the films? It’s limiting to keep rebooting comic book movie franchises and retelling the same stories. There’s decades worth of stories that could translate well onto film.

  • Heath Ledger’s The Joker to Cameo in The Dark Knight Rises?

The late Heath Ledger redefined the Joker in the medium of film in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The latest in the rumor mill for the third Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises is that Nolan wants to use unseen footage of Ledger’s Joker.

“The idea is to use these fragments of cut scenes and use CGI to have The Joker appear one last time.”

    -An insider

The unnamed insider went on to say that the footage would only be included with the full consent of Ledger’s family — and hopefully they do — Ledger’s Joker was captivating. And let us not forget that the Joker is an essential part in Batman. He may spend half the time in Arkham Asylum, but he’s still a threat who Batman drops in on every now and then. It would add to the continuity of the trilogy.

But of course it’s only a rumor. Regardless, the Joker should have a brief cameo in some form — even if he’s just spoken about in passing. He is Batman’s ultimate antagonist after all.

    UPDATE:

Christopher Nolan denied rumors about Heath Ledger’s Joker cameo in The Dark Knight Rises.

Nevertheless, re-casting the role of the Joker would be good for continuity.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

  • Karl Urban as Judge Dredd

The Judge Dredd reboot is underway with rehearsals and recently a photo has been released of lead actor Karl Urban as the title character. And yes, director Pete Travis and Urban are adamant that Dredd will be keeping the helmet on during the duration of the film.

  • Jon Favreau’s Cowboys and Aliens Trailer

The trailer for director Jon Favreau’s film Cowboys and Aliens is released. Sure, the title is a little silly, but from what I’ve seen at Comic-Con and from the trailer — and a cast with Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, and Sam Rockwell — this adaptation of the comic book has a lot going for it.

  • Green Lantern Trailer Released

What else is there to say other than the trailer for Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds is released? I’m stoked.

  • Rumored Live-Action Batman TV Series

A rumor is making rounds that WB plans to bring a live-action Batman series to television after Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises is concluded. And why not? Batman would translate well on the medium — as proven by Batman: The Animated Series.

The unnamed head executive spearheading this endeavor wants the series to coincide with Nolan’s trilogy. And to state the obvious: while the series would follow the movies, the actors would be re-casted. So what does this mean? The Joker would be making a return as the main baddie. And WB wants this Joker to be a completely new version from Heath Ledger’s.

Smallville and BBC’s Sherlock Holmes success played a vital role in influencing WB into wanting a live-action Batman series. And a live-action version would translate perfectly: there won’t be a need for a lot of special effects; it can put more of a focus on Batman’s detective skills; and develop more of the villains and Arkham Asylum.

The fanboy in me is absolutely ecstatic. The potential is there. They can finally display his detective skills. And they can take full advantage of the entire rogues gallery. Do it, WB. It’s perfect timing. Smallville is coming to a close. Now bring us Batman.

  • The Wolverine Announced

The sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been given an official title that’s been revealed by director Darren Aronofsky: The Wolverine. It’s simple and short. I like it.

The new film will take place during Logan’s time in Japan. For those who don’t read the comics: in Japan Logan develops a relationship with a woman who’s being forced into an arranged marriage. Of course Logan is stubborn, so he ends up fighting against the woman’s father and and her samurai brothers.

The film will be a “one-off”, a standalone movie, said Aronofsky. It’s a smart move considering how horrible the first movie was. Hopefully their second outing with the character is done well; otherwise the nerd rage will reach Hulk proportions.

  • Martin Sheen in Spider-Man

Joining Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in director Marc Webb’s Spider-Man film is actor Martin Sheen. He’ll be portraying Peter Parker’s beloved Uncle Ben.

For those who don’t know (Who could that be? No, seriously.): Uncle Ben is Peter Parker’s beloved uncle who is more of a father figure. Uncle Ben teaches Peter morals and coins the famous quote, “With great power comes responsibility.”

I keep getting surprised by the casting for the Spider-Man remake, and I can’t help but be stoked for it.
