Alright all you Naruto nerds in my life (and not in my life), there is good news — or possibly bad news: the anime officially got the greenlight for a live-action adaptation with Sony and Lionsgate bringing it to fruition. Hot off Spider-Man: Brand New Day, director Destin Daniel Cretton is spearheading Naruto.
Not only is Cretton directing the Naruto film, he will also write the screenplay and produce, with production quickly starting spring of 2027. It almost sounds like it’s a passion project for him.
“As a longtime fan of Naruto, I’ve always loved that beneath the extraordinary action is a story filled with heart, humor, and humanity. Kishimoto-sensei created a world where unlikely heroes do extraordinary things, and that’s what makes it so special.” – Deston Daniel Cretton
As for actors involved, supposedly Charles Melton of Riverdale will join in the role of Kakashi Hatake, both a favorite of fan girls and boys alike. So far it seems like they’re heading in the right direction for Naruto.
Just please, for the love of god, do not Naruto run in the theaters, guys.
