Empire-cover-Jared-Leto-Joker-Suicide-SquadToday Empire released their magazine cover of Jared Leto as the Joker for the upcoming movie, Suicide Squad. It further illustrates the departure from earlier film incarnations. It’s wildly different from the Heath Ledger version. For instance, the coat looks expensive, rather than the ill-fitted mess in The Dark Knight. Plus the cane is a nice touch.

But I still don’t like the tattoos. It would look better without the tats, especially the ones that are Joker themed. It seems more like something his goons would do. Although, the Robin tattoo he apparently has is a good touch. It’s ironic and funny to him — and probably pisses Batman off. Which I have to bring up — I wish the Joker had a Batman themed tattoo too. Just imagining Ben Affleck’s Batman raging over that is glorious. Though the Robin tat is enough to cause that.

I’ll try my best to reserve most of my judgement until seeing the character on-screen. Who knows. Leto’s Joker might actually be really good. The look might even work too. I mean — have you seen the new incarnation of Batman? That’s pretty much a huge mass of muscle to go up against.

Suicide Squad releases in theaters August 5, 2016.
