‘Star Wars’ Spinoff: ‘Rogue One’

starwarsDisney has huge plans for Star Wars. There’s J. J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens to kick off the new trilogy — oh, and there’s planned spinoffs too. One of them was recently announced: Rogue One.

My interest is very piqued. The term “Rogue One” entails an X-Wing fighter squadron. Does this mean no Jedi in the first spinoff? It sounds like it. And I like that. A lot. I always preferred the Jedi being rare — not well-done like Anakin. By which I mean, there were way too many Jedi in the prequels. Thank god they all died.

Oh . . . The Force Awakens . . . I forgot.

A movie focused on a fighter squadron in the Star Wars sounds like such fun. I could go on and on about my hopes for the film, but I can sum it up with this: I sincerely hope for Top Gun in space. Bring on team building exercises, homoeroticism, and volleyball on Tatooine.

Is it bad that I became more excited for Rogue One than the new trilogy?

That’s a rhetorical question. We both know it’s a good thing. It’s gonna be grand.

Star Wars: Rogue One is slated for release December 16, 2016.
