‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Directed by Rian Johnson of ‘Looper’

Did the news settle yet? Rian Johnson, best known for either Looper or some of the strongest episodes of Breaking Bad, has taken up the directing and writing duties for Star Wars: Episode VIII. He will also write the treatment for Episode IX.

It’s exciting news. Johnson’s earlier work speaks volumes for the man. Looper is a well-directed film with a clever premise written by Johnson. And before that, he worked with Joseph Gordon-Levitt on Brick, which had the hard-boiled detective feel thrown into a high school setting. Johnson was also responsible for one of my favorite episodes of Breaking Bad, “Ozymandias”.

Did I geek out enough?

I am really looking forward to a Star Wars movie written and directed by Rian Johnson. A lot. It’s a step in a very right direction.
