Despite the backlash against Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and Karen Allen wish to move forward with a fifth movie. At this point, it’s in George Lucas’ hands if it’ll actually happen.

Sounds promising, right? Or maybe not. Lucas doesn’t have a good reputation with fans, and the last film was more or less blamed on him.

I have a better idea — or I’m just full of myself. Rather than a continuation from the fourth, ignore it with a new one. But not just that, also recast the part. I know, I know — I’m being a heretic right now. Just hear me out.

Part of the appeal of Indy is that he’s an intellectual who gets his hands dirty; he performs stunts, he fights the Nazi. Harrison Ford is getting old, he can’t really make it believable anymore. But who could possibly replace him?

If you ever watched The Vampire Diaries, Alaric is a character who stands out. Enough so that he instantly struck me as an Indiana Jones type. It’s already easy to see where I’m going with this. Actor Matthew Davis would make a perfect Indy; he has the look and the way he delivers his lines already sounds like Indiana Jones.

Or maybe Han Solo?

Of course I’m just dreaming. But if they were to ever recast the part, Matthew Davis is the first actor who springs to mind.
