When it first became known that Robocop was being remade, I was cynical that it’d be any good. There’s a lot to beat: the satire, the memorable characters and mainly, Peter Weller’s astounding portrayal of Robocop. But now I’m starting to think differently about the remake.
Relatively unknown Joel Kinnaman will play Alex Murphy/Robocop; which should make immersion of the character easier since he isn’t a household name. His co-stars? They’ll definitely be memorable. Gary Oldman is cast as the scientist and creator of Robocop. And the recent addition? Samuel L. Jackson as a charismatic media mogul — so hello, satire!
My curiosity is certainly piqued.
Directed by Jose Padilha, Robocop is slated for release summer 2013.
