Despite earlier reports, there isn’t an Iron Man 4. But fret not! Besides The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark in The Avengers 3. And he’s in talks to join the cast in some other movie tentatively entitled, Captain America 3.
As for the premise — don’t read any further if you don’t want to be spoiled!
Apparently the plot will follow the Civil War story arc, which means we’ll see Steve Rogers and Tony Stark at odds over a registration act. Sides are taken and things spiral out of control. We would see Stark essentially becoming an antagonist in a Captain America movie.
Many kids would cry out in protest.
The fallout would change the landscape for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (The Civil War, not the kids upset about Iron Man). It would lead into more superheroes entering the fray and into The Avengers 4. Which means, we’ll more than likely have Downey in that film too.
There might be no plans for Iron Man 4, but Tony Stark will make an appearance in other movies — and possibly even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Downey mentioned on an AMA on Reddit that he would like to guest star on the show.
I’m very much looking forward to it. All of it. And it’s good to know that Robert Downey Jr. will continue to play Tony Stark in other Marvel properties.
