It’s clear that both Marvel and Disney are in love with Joss Whedon after the massive success known as The Avengers. So when news came out that they’re moving forward with plans for a television show, it was no surprise that they’d turn to Whedon. The man does have experience in the area — Buffy and Firefly being perfect examples.

ABC ordered a pilot for a S.H.I.E.L.D. television series. Naturally, Whedon will spearhead the endeavor.

And no, it doesn’t mean that Samuel L. Jackson will star as Nick Fury in the series, but a cameo in some form is entirely possible. In the past Marvel expressed wanting not just their movies to exist in the same universe, but television shows to take part as well.

Who actually could star in the show? Cobie Smulders is a seasoned actress on the series How I Met Your Mother, and if she was willing to take on two shows, she could star in S.H.I.E.L.D. as the second-in-command Maria Hill. Or if not, she could easily make frequent cameos.

“Phase 1” really was only the beginning. “Phase 2” is proving more than just a continuation, but an expansion of the universe as well.
