  • 3 Smallville Actors Make a Return

Smallville is on its tenth and final season with its conclusion fast approaching. And what’s in store for the February 4th episode? The return of Lionel Luthor (John Glover), Martha Kent (Anette O’Toole) and Chloe (Allison Mack).

The premise the CW released? (Spoiler Alert):

Clark (Tom Welling) is surprised to see Martha (Annette O’Toole) on the news speaking at a pro-vigilante rally. However, surprise quickly turns to horror when he and Lois (Erica Durance) watch as Martha gets shot on national television.

Meanwhile, Lionel (John Glover) reveals himself to the world and reclaims LuthorCorp from Tess (Cassidy Freeman) and Oliver (Justin Hartley). Lois and Chloe (Allison Mack) decide to cheer Clark up by showing him videos from thousands of vigilante supporters professing their support for The Blur. Videos were created and submitted by actual “Smallville” fans. Mike Rohl directed the episode written by Don Whitehead & Holly Henderson.

It’s great that a few old cast members are reprising their roles for the final season of Smallville, but we’re all still hoping for a Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) return. It only makes sense for all the key players to make a last appearance in the show’s final run.

  • Marvel’s Black Panther Film Back on Track

Marvel’s superhero Black Panther is back on track being developed as a film. And frankly, it’s about time since studios have been trying to adapt Black Panther as a movie since the 90s.

Curiously enough, Mark Bailey will write the screenplay. Bailey is known as a writer and story editor for various documentaries. But who knows? He just might be a perfect fit after all.

Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios will produce.

So who is Black Panther? The name itself is the ceremonial title bestowed upon the chief of the Panther tribe in the fictional African nation Wakanda. The main Black Panther in the Marvel universe? His name is T’Challa, the leader of the various tribes of the nation and defender of the people. Becoming Black Panther, T’Challa, with his connection with the Wakandan Panther god, consumed a special herb which granted him greatly enhanced senses, strength, speed, agility, and stamina.

The Black Panther character was created in 1966 and is considered the first mainstream black superhero.

It’s good timing for the Black Panther film with the Avengers flick on the horizon, especially since Black Panther eventually becomes an Avenger himself.

  • The Dark Knight Rises Casting News

The Dark Knight Rises casting news broke this morning by Warner Bros: Tom Hardy will portray Bane and Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle, who is also known as Catwoman.

Luckily director Christopher Nolan doesn’t do camp, so Hardy’s Bane won’t be the brainless brute from Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin.

For those not in the know: Bane spent majority of his early life in prison, but had a thirst for knowledge; reading books and receiving an education from a Jesuit priest. And, of course, constantly working out with a penchant for violence. He’s then forced as a test subject for a drug called Venom, which increases his strength exponentially, but forces him to take a dosage every 12 hours or suffer side-effects.

Without delving too far into comic story arcs, Bane’s intelligence rivals Batman’s.

Tom Hardy is inspired casting for the role, and he’s proven himself as a capable actor. I’m entirely looking forward to his take on Bane.

“I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

    — Christopher Nolan

And Selina Kyle? Her origin was revised a few times, but the gist of her story is that she’s a jewel thief and cat burglar — hence the name “Catwoman”. Trained in gymnastics, Selina employs the skill in her burglaries. In Gotham City she’s trained in martial arts.

Selina Kyle has a rocky relationship with Bruce Wayne while, as Catwoman, is flirtatious towards Batman despite being a thorn in his side.

I can see Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle. She has an onscreen charm that matches the persona well. Catwoman will translate easily in Nolan’s Batman movie.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

    — Christopher Nolan

Despite hating the title The Dark Knight Rises, I’m stoked for Nolan’s third and final Batman film — and excited with the addition of Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway. Now, here’s to hoping Batman gets to further display his detective skills.

  • New Chris Hemsworth Photo as Thor Released

Entertainment Weekly released a new photo of Chris Hemsworth as Thor. The film is slated for release in May 2011. It’s bound to be a fun movie.

  • Chris Evans in Full Captain America Costume

Here’s Chris Evans in full costume for Captain America: The First Avenger; released in Entertainment Weekly. Is it July yet?

  • Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man Suit Released

Sony Pictures released a photo of actor Andrew Garfield in the Spider-Man suit — and I’m really stoked for the film. The suit does the comic justice, and Garfield’s enthusiasm to the role ramps up the anticipation for the movie.

Oh, and does that look like web-shooters on his wrists? Why yes, yes it does.

  • Test Footage for Superman Lives Suit

Test footage for Tim Burton’s former film Superman Lives released online by FX artist Steve Johnson. The video features a prototype of Superman’s costume, which relies on light effects. The suit deviates heavily from the usual, and the general assumption is that it’s the “eradicator” suit Superman dons after mortal injuries he sustains from a fight with Doomsday. It’s a kryptonian life support suit with an AI and weapons.

The design is an interesting concept, but doesn’t really suit Superman.

  • Official Thor Trailer is Out

The official Thor trailer is out. A lot of effects are cleaned up from the trailer I saw at Comic-Con. I’m really stoked for Thor. May 6th cannot come soon enough.
