Cowboys & Aliens comes out this summer.
Marvel released the official poster for Captain America: The First Avenger — and it looks incredibly badass. It fits the tone of a World War II film.
I can’t help but be enthusiastic for the upcoming movie. Chris Evans was earnest at Comic-Con about Captain America, and director Joe Johnston feels like a perfect fit after his work on Indiana Jones and The Rocketeer.
Not so surprisingly, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to join the cast of The Dark Knight Rises — which means he’s pretty much in. Director Christopher Nolan clearly loves the man, and Gordon-Levitt has more than established himself as a competent actor in both indie films and a Blockbuster.
So the question is: which character will Joseph Gordon-Levitt portray?
The Joker is an obvious choice due to Gordon-Levitt and the late Heath Ledger looking alike, but Nolan is adamant against recasting the part. Like others have said, I’d imagine Gordon-Levitt would make a good Riddler. Although, I still wouldn’t want the Riddler to be an actual villain. I would want him being a more grey character; an intellectual and rival detective who opposes Batman.
To speculate for a moment, Tom Hardy’s Bane is the outright villain trying to dismantle Batman. Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman is the burglar who tries her hand in being a vigilante. And the Riddler? Batman’s rival detective whose obsessive compulsion and neurosis causes him to antagonize Batman. These three antagonists would further display Batman’s detective skills while also exploring his character.
The third Batman movie can turn out very cerebral. And Nolan is capable of such a film.
Production for The Dark Knight Rises starts this spring.
The film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is underway with Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) at the helm. In the starring role as Lincoln is Broadway actor Benjamin Walker.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a fictional biography detailing Lincoln’s life as a vampire hunter, rise as president, and battles against vampires during the Civil War.
Walker will portray Lincoln from early adulthood to the middle-aged president, complete with his famous beard.
Sounds ridiculous, right? Ridiculous fun.
The new Superman film being produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by Zack Snyder has recent news: actor Henry Cavill landed the role of Clark Kent and Superman.
“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Brothers, Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”
— Zack Snyder
I gotta admit: I was hoping for Brandon Routh getting another shot with a better script or Tom Welling making the leap from Smallville to a Superman movie — though I’m sure they don’t want the reboot to feel like a continuation of Superman Returns or Smallville.
Interesting enough, Cavill was considered for the role in the past by both McG and Brett Ratner. It’s meant to be if the opportunity presents itself again and Cavill lands the role.
The film is slated for release in December 2012.

On a snowboarding trip — see you on Monday!
The release date for director Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is bumped to June 8, 2012 by 20th Century Fox. This move can be seen as having confidence in the original sci-fi. And why shouldn’t there be? Both Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof (Lost) are working on the screenplay together.
And in other news? Starring opposite of Noomi Rapace will be Michael Fassbender, whose most notable role is in Inglorious Basterds. He’ll be playing an android in Prometheus.
Fassbender is currently portraying Magneto in X-Men: First Class.
It’s hard not being optimistic for Prometheus with all the people involved. It’s definitely a film to keep an eye on.
