I found it hard to imagine a Street Fighter that could outdo the fun of the original from the 1990s. Everybody — I mean everybody was chewing scenery. They knew the film was gonna be ridiculous and they leaned into it, yet still maintained a sense of sincerity. There was heart behind it. And Jean Claude Van-Damme and M. Bison were taking turns stealing the show with their iconic scenes and one-liners.
I won’t lie — the casting for the upcoming Street Fighter did pique my interest. The cast felt outlandish and out there. A mix of actors, singers, and professional wrestlers. And then we got a look of how they look as the characters from the games. It was unapologetically pulled from the games. They looked realism in the face and said fu — go away.
The recent trailer that came out continued that entire feel, and I am here for it. And if it wasn’t already winning me over; the film is even taking place in 1993. And really, that feels very Street Fighter.
What I’m trying to say is you should watch the trailer. Now. Right now. I’m now very excited and have faith that the new Street Fighter will continue the legacy of fun Street Fighter movies.
Perfect.
