I recently raved about Alien: Earth and the season finale was this week. Don’t worry — I’m not going to spoil it. Or really talk about it either. Rather, I’m going to talk about one of the actors on the show: Timothy Olyphant.
First, he has a great first name.
Olyphant has always been a captivating actor. He always disappears in his roles, and he tends to have really good chemistry with his castmates. And on Alien: Earth, it was the same. And somehow, it’s even more fun, since he plays a synthetic named Kirsh, who is mainly stoic and calculating, yet plays off of others in a way that draws you in. There is a cattiness just under the surface. Kirsh is both amused and curious, and he clearly enjoys interacting with others.
“My whole career is based on a big giant left turn.” -Timothy Olyphant
It turns out, acting was not Olyphant’s first choice — or even a choice — when he was younger. He went into college majoring in art; painting ceramics, where on a whim he decided to give acting a shot. Suffice to say, it was a great whim, because he developed a very solid career in acting.
Here is a wonderful interview by Collider with the man himself about his career, and into the wonderfully bizarre show, Alien: Earth. It’s definitely worth a read.
