guardiansofthegalaxyphotoMarvel’s most out there movie yet, Guardians of the Galaxy, has a photo that is making rounds online. One look and it’s easy to see why it’s the most out there. There’s only one character who actually looks human. The rest — not quite so.

Going down the line; there’s Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, and Vin Diesel as Groot.

Well-known comic book characters, right? By which I mean, they aren’t really known in the mainstream; nor do they seem to be your typical heroes. Rightfully so, considering the premise as well.

“An action-packed epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the universe.

To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits – Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer.  But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.”

It’s an interesting premise, with an equally interesting cast; with the likes of Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio del Toro, and Glenn Close included.

Despite immensely enjoying Iron Man 3 (being my favorite Marvel superhero and Robert Downey Jr.) I have to say that Guardians of the Galaxy is the one I’m most excited for in Marvel’s Phase 2. They’re taking risks. It’s admirable. And it looks fun. I can’t wait.

Guardians of the Galaxy releases in theaters August 1, 2014.
