benkinsgleythemandarinYou watched Iron Man 3, right? If not — what the heck? Go watch it right now! Then continue reading this.

The Mandarin was proven to be a hoax, simply an act by Trevor Slattery, who was hired by Aldrich Killian to put a face to the terrorist group. The drunken, drugged-out Brit was an unexpected swerve that people either loved or despised. It was brilliant. The real “Mandarin” turned out to be Killian. He declared it himself. He even had the tattoos the Mandarin had in the comics. But it left us wondering if the Ten Rings terrorist organization was real or not.

Ben Kingsley easily stole the show as The Mandarin/Trevor Slattery when he was on screen. It isn’t an easy feat considering it’s a movie starring Robert Downey Jr. His character went to prison, but gained the recognition he wanted. Cameras were in his face. He became infamous. Things can only look up for the actor. That is, if he can survive prison. By “actor” I mean Trevor.

Marvel’s new one-shot is entitled All Hail the King, which will follow Trevor Slattery in prison after the events in Iron Man 3.

“Imagine a real terrorist organization whose beliefs were long held and religious for thousands of years, and imagine a drunk, British actor coming along and essentially telling the world that he’s the face of your organization. I think they would be right to be quite angry.”

–Writer Drew Pearce

It seems that Trevor still has a lot to answer for. And it looks like the Ten Rings is the real deal in the Marvel universe after all. Hopefully this means Trevor will fall asleep through various threats.

All Hail the King will be featured on Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray, which releases February 25.
