shieldlogoJoss Whedon’s new television show S.H.I.E.L.D. sparked a couple debates on when it takes place. Naturally, it was thought that it’s after the events in The Avengers, but the inclusion of Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson made some think otherwise.

ABC executive Paul Lee shined some light that the show does in fact take place after The Avengers. It now sparks speculation on how Agent Coulson returns. But if there’s one thing to agree on, it’s that Coulson’s return is welcomed.

Marvel is moving forward with expanding the film universe with world-building. And S.H.I.E.L.D. has similar intentions. The show will center around a group of agents while while also introducing other heroes that may find their way in a feature length film. It’s brilliant and provides an excellent springboard.

Nevertheless, the focus will always be the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And with Whedon and Gregg involved, many of us wouldn’t have it any other way.
