During promotion of the DVD and Blu-ray release of Tron: Legacy, director Joseph Kosinski spoke of the third Tron film and how it will revolve around Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) and Quorra (Olivia Wilde) in and out of the Grid.

“I think we will pick with where TRON: LEGACY left off with Quorra in the real world and what does that mean and the possibilities it opens up for the next chapter. It’s that relationship between the two of them

[Sam and Quorra] that’s the next step.”

— Joseph Kosinski

Kosinski added that David Warner’s Dillinger in the original film is an important aspect and the inclusion of his son in the sequel serves as a springboard into the next film. It’s exciting that Cillian Murphy would reprise his role as Dillinger’s son. He’s a brilliant actor, and the sons of Flynn and Dillinger at odds would put another level of tension in the premise.

Then there’s also the Master Control Program, the antaognist of the original movie. It made an appearance in the special features of Tron: Legacy in a chat with Dillinger Jr. about Sam Flynn taking control of Encom.

It’s almost a given that Dillinger Jr. and the Master Control Program will serve as antagonists in the third Tron film. It’s a natural fit and would make a thrilling third movie.
